SDG Summit 2024 to be held in July

THE Ministry of Economy calls on all parties to play a role in ensuring the success of the implementation of the remaining six years of Malaysia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) targets at its summit scheduled for July 2024.

Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib (picture) urged stakeholders not to squander the opportunity, emphasising the platform’s significance for sharing progress towards collective goals.

“Don’t waste this opportunity. This is the platform for you to share everything you’re doing to achieve our shared agenda and goals,” she said during her keynote address at the pre-launch event of the SDG Summit Malaysia 2024 in Putrajaya today.

Moreover, Hanifah hopes that they will provide feedback and suggestions, as well as new ideas, regarding existing and planned policies related to sustainable development in Malaysia.

“This conference will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to provide input and feedback on existing policies related to SDGs and SDG implementation initiatives that need improvement for the benefit of all,” she said.

SDG Summit Malaysia 2024, spearheaded by the Ministry of Economy in collaboration with the National SDG Center (NSDC), will provide a stage for stakeholders from diverse sectors to connect, exchange views, and collectively strategise.

The upcoming two-day summit in July 2024 is a continuation of the inaugural event held in September 2019, attended by over 2,600 participants.

Besides keynote speeches, plenary sessions, and expert discussions involving policymakers and industry leaders, the summit will once again feature exhibitions and various side events involving youth and professionals.

“This is the time for us to give a new face to old ideas or abandon them and present new ideas to pave a smoother path towards achieving the 2030 Agenda,” Hanifah noted.
